The primary language of choice for postsecondary education in both our nation and many other nations is English. Proficiency in English is essential for careers in a variety of fields, including as research, technology, and high-level government posts. Additionally, it is a requirement for those who want to pursue higher education abroad.
Keeping this global importance in mind, our BA (Hons) and MA programs are designed to develop students’ linguistic capability through the teaching of both language and literature.
Being familiar with great literature and writing, the learners will also be able to appreciate how human beings from different cultures and times have used literary arts to shape experiences thoughtfully and meaningfully. So, students of any profession can sharpen their expressive power which will hone their professional competence by undertaking BA (hons) and Master degree from the department.
The vision of the Department of English of Pundra University of Science and Technology is to foster knowledge by creating and nurturing the love for literature and language, stimulate and develop the imagination and critical thinking of the students through teaching and research, develop the department as a hub of academic excellence and high-quality research, and most importantly, enable the learners to incorporate literary and linguistic skills with professional needs to excel in career.
The overall mission of the Department of English of Pundra University of Science and Technology, committed to enhancing the intellectual and cultural lives of both of its students and faculty through global standard pedagogy and research, is to:
Promote the knowledge of language and literature, specifically the ability to read, write, and think critically.
Strengthen the liberal education of students by developing a profound understanding of literature and language, the value of critical reading and effective writing, and the richness of literature.
Enable individuals to gather, analyze, and communicate information effectively, and draw appropriate decisions independently.
The Department of English helps to develop a variety of cognitive skills including analyzing, synthesizing, speaking, listening, reading, evaluating, and appreciating language for itself.
The department provides research skills which enable learners to expand, from a variety of perspectives, their own readings of literature and understanding of language.
It ensures an appropriate knowledge of relevant fields within the discipline, including literature; literary history, criticism, and theory; and the history of the English language. This disciplinary knowledge can also be effective in other areas outside the discipline as analyzing culture and human behavior.
The Department of English also strives to participate in and contribute to the wider community of scholarship, research and pedagogical theory and practice in the disciplines of literary and critical studies; in creative and critical writing; in comparative literature; in gender, ethnic and cultural studies; in teacher training; and in linguistics.
The department also seeks to enhance students' perception of the richness and diversity of the social and ethical values in literature and our response to them, recognizing that literature is by its nature value-laden; that each author and reader brings to his or her work an ethical framework and vision of the human condition
